Carmelo Ezpeleta expresses his condolences for the sad loss of Daijiro Kato

Carmelo Ezpeleta, on behalf of all of Dorna Sports, would like to express his deepest condolences for the sad loss of Daijiro Kato, who passed away on Saturday night at the Yokkaichi Central Hospital. The Japanese rider was unable to overcome the severe injuries sustained to his head and neck when he crashed during the opening laps of the Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka on April 6th. Kato, the 250cc World Champion in 2001, passed away after fighting for his life for the past two weeks.

`I can barely express my personal feelings and those of all the Dorna personnel who work in MotoGP and knew Kato-san,´ said Mr Ezpeleta, CEO Managing Director of Dorna Sports. `He really was a nice person and the only thing that I can say is that my thoughts are with Daijiro's family, especially with his wife and his two children, and also with Team Gresini and with Honda.´

`This is the moment none of us involved in MotoGP would like to live, and we offer all our support to Daijiro's family for the future.´

Details of Kato's funerals are yet to be released by his relatives.
