Thomas Luthi takes CEV Fortuna victory

Thomas Luthi is the early leader of the CEV Fortuna 125cc Spanish Championship after taking an impressive victory at the Circuit de Catalunya this weekend. The Swiss youngster, who currently lies 15th in the 125cc World Championship after three rounds, dominated the opening round of the series in front of 18,000 people, taking pole position and winning the race by eight seconds.

Luthi was chased over the opening couple of laps by local riders Julián Miralles and Sergio Gadea but soon made a break for a comfortable victory. Luthi´s fellow GP rider Álvaro Bautista fought the pain of injuries sustained in qualifying to mount a comeback in the second half of the race, dislodging Gadea from the final podium spot behind Miralles in second. Danish youngster Robin Harms took fifth place.

Former 125cc and 250cc World Championship rider Raul Jara took victory in the Supersport race, whilst there was also a Grand Prix flavour to the Formula Extreme class where Oriol Fernández overcame the likes of Jose Luis Cardoso, David De Gea and David Tomás to take a clear victory in a crash-strewn race. The second round of the CEV Fortuna takes place on the 22nd June at Jarama.
