Andrea Dovizioso was one of three riders to lap under pole record time in the first qualifying session for the 125cc race in sunny and dry conditions at Le Mans. With rain showers forecast for tomorrow there was an exciting feel to this afternoon´s practice as the riders pushed for a good initial qualifying time in case of a wet final session. Dovizisio took provisional pole position in a time of 1´43.565, with Youichi Ui and Jorge Lorenzo also dipping under the previous best here of 1´44.002 set by Manuel Poggiali.

After setting the quickest time in the morning 16 year old Lorenzo proved to be the surprise package of the day, putting his Derbi on the provisional front row alongside the Honda of Dovizioso and the Aprilias of Ui and Casey Stoner, who showed encouraging signs of his continual adaptation to the 125 machine with the fourth quickest time.

World Champion Arnaud Vincent also gave an indication of things to come from the KTM machine, qualifying on the provisional second row in eighth position behind Alex De Angelis, Dani Pedrosa and Lucio Cecchinello.
