MotoGP and eBay team up to save lives in Africa

The MotoGP paddock and eBay, the worldwide web´s on-line auction house, have launched a partnership to benefit the work in Africa undertaken by motorcycling´s official charity, Riders for Health.

Items ´that money can´t buy´ supplied by riders, teams and sponsors of the MotoGP paddock will be going up for sale on the e-Bay site on Tuesday 27th May.

Among the twelve items are a pair of paddock passes for the Gran Premio Cinzano d´Italia, two autographed pairs of Arnette sunglasses worn by Valentino Rossi and Manuel Poggiali, dinner for two as guests of Aprilia hospitality, the possibility of playing a friendly football match against some riders in Mugello, a Ducati jacket signed by Loris Capirossi, an Alpinestars back-pack signed by Max Biaggi and Marco Melandri, a PC game autographed by several riders, a piece of Rossi's Dainese leather suit, part of Stefano Bianco's Gilera fairing, and a Riders for Health book autographed by MotoGP stars.

The first auction, all relating to Mugello, will be followed by others featuring items for Catalunya, Assen, Donington, Sachsenring, Phillip Island and Valencia. Each auction will be open for seven days and will be closed the day before the Grand Prix starts (normally Wednesday).

Said Andrea Coleman, chief executive of Riders for Health: ´We are extremely grateful to eBay, Dorna Sports and to all the teams who participated for putting together this new programme. The income will be extremely valuable in our programmes in Africa and it shows, once again, how creatively generous the worldwide motorcycle community and its partners are in helping to tackle the question of poverty and deprivation in Africa.´

Riders for Health was founded in 1989 by Randy Mamola and Kenny Roberts amongst others, and is the official charity supported by Dorna and teams like Ducati Corse and Proton KR. The aim of the organisation is to make sure that motorcycles save and improve lives across the continent of Africa. The funds ensure that ´Riders´s fleet of African staff have the necessary training and equipment to deliver health services in the most difficult of conditions. The machines are maintained allowing a wide network of communication and contact that is vital in cases such as disease prevention and medical aid.
