Chaz Davies to face biggest examination at home GP

Taking your GCSE exams is a pretty traumatic time for any 16-year-old. Throw in the fact you had to take them in a foreign country while competing in one of the most demanding and dangerous of any World Championship sporting arenas and no wonder Chaz Davies is so looking forward to just the Cinzano British Grand Prix at Donington Park on 13 July. A month ago he was faced with those GCSE exams while competing in the Cinzano Gran Premio d´Italia at Mugello.

The schoolboy from Presteigne, a small town just inside the Welsh border, came through the grand prix examination with flying colours, while the results of his GCSE exertions will have to wait until the end of August. Chaz, who is the youngest rider ever to score World Championship points in the demanding 250cc class, finished 13th in Italy - his highest finish in one and a half years of Grand Prix racing.

`Thank goodness the exams are over and I can concentrate just on my racing,´ explained Chaz. `My mum and the school organised everything in order that I could take the exams at the same time as my class at home. We set up a small class room at the Mugello circuit and a tutor from the local school came in to adjudicate´.

Chaz can now concentrate on his only racing appearance of the year in Britain when he rides for the Aprilia Germany team at the British Grand Prix in front of a record crowd at Donington on 13th July. It´s an even bigger test of nerves than those dreaded GCSE papers. `This is a really big race for me because it´s the only time I ride in front of the home fans,´ revealed Chaz, who won a British Championship race when he was only 14 years old. `When you race away from home eight months of the year at circuits all over the world it´s great to come home. I´ve raced at Donington many times and know the circuit well, so I really want to produce a special result for all the family who´ve given me so much support and the team´.
