Porto apologises to Rolfo for Estoril collision

Sebastian Porto has apologised to Honda colleague Roberto Rolfo for the collision which almost saw both riders crash out at the end of a hard fought 250cc race at Estoril on Sunday. The Argentinean, who led for several laps in the early stages of the race, explained that he was forced to brake later than his rivals as his bike lost out on power to the other machines, and admitted he pushed the limits a little too far when he bashed into the side of Rolfo in the chicane on the last lap.

I gave my maximum in the race as always but I was limited, said Porto. There is a big difference between my bike and the Aprilias, and even the Honda of Rolfo, but that is what we have to work with and we know that. Something happened with my engine halfway through the race which made it impossible to follow Elias, so when Poggialli and Rolfo passed me I just had to brake as late as possible in every corner to make sure they didnt escape. Obviously in the chicane I braked too late and hit Roby. What can I say? I apologised to him straight after the race and he accepted my apology.

As Rolfo miraculously avoided the crash, hanging on to his machine to guide it across the line in fourth place, Porto was able to jump back on board and take fifth, ensuring a weekend of hard work did not end in disaster for his team. Personally I was happy after the race because I gave my maximum, had fun and at the end of the day we have left Portugal with a better bike than when we arrived. The team did a good job over the weekend and now we have to continue that progression.
