De Puniet sets title target: two wins and three podiums

Randy De Puniet today declared that maintaining his current form over the final races of the season should be enough to win the 250cc World Championship. The Frenchman is one of five riders who could leave the Nelson Piquet circuit with the championship lead on Saturday night after the twelfth round of the most open and entertaining seasons in living memory, with Manuel Poggiali still leading the way by fourteen points from Toni Elias, Roby Rolfo a further three points behind and both De Puniet and Fonsi Nieto also within striking distance of the former 125cc World Champion.

"I think whoever is going to win this title needs two victories and three podiums from the last five races," mused De Puniet, who has taken one win and two podiums from the last three rounds. "Personally, my aim is to keep up my consistency and go for the win whenever I get the chance – without taking unnecessary risks. I'm not sure if that will be this weekend but I like this circuit and I think it suits my style so we will see".
