Interesting stats and facts ahead of the 250cc race in Rio

Any of the top five riders in the current World Championship classification could guarantee winning the title by taking victory in the remaining five races.

Aprilia have won ten of the eleven GPs in the 250cc class this year, but have only once won in the class at Rio. Honda have had five victories in the 250cc class at this circuit, Yamaha have also had a single victory.

Toni Elias starts from pole for the second successive race after never previously having had a pole position in the 250cc GP class. Elias' pole position time is the fastest ever lap of the Rio circuit by a 250cc machine. The top seven riders on the grid have lapped faster than the existing lap record set in 1999 by Valentino Rossi.

Manuel Poggiali starts from the front row for the tenth time in 2003, more than any other rider in the 250cc class.

Roberto Rolfo is the only rider in the 250cc class to have scored points at every GP this year. Randy De Puniet crashed out in Rio 12 months ago after qualifying on pole for the first time in his Grand Prix career.

Sebastian Porto's single Grand Prix win came last year in Rio.
