Checa looking for major improvements at Motegi

Carlos Checa heads for the Gauloises Pacific Grand Prix of Motegi this week looking to make up for a disappointing ninth place in the last round at Rio. The Fortuna Yamaha rider has yet to score a podium this season and, although he recognises that he faces an uphill task on Sunday at Honda's home circuit, he insists he will be giving maximum effort towards breaking that elusive top three.

"Obviously there is no point in me being too optimistic as I prepare for this race because that is what the situation dictates," comments the Spaniard. "I left Rio feeling pretty disappointed but I am over that now and I am ready to give my all again at this Grand Prix. I think that is the most important thing – that both myself and my team prepare for every race as if it was our first, ready to give maximum effort and ensure that we can be as high as possible in the classification.

"I have not been on the podium yet this season and that is not good enough for a rider who wants to fight for victory every single weekend. The Pacific GP will be very important for our immediate future in this championship and if we can leave Motegi with something positive in terms of the machine and the result, we can be hopeful of making good progress over the next two races and arriving at Valencia with a chance of rewarding the support of the Spanish fans. There are only four races left until the end of the season and, even though our initial objectives are not being met, I will not be throwing in the towel."
