Interesting stats and facts ahead of the 250cc race in Malaysia

Toni Elias starts from pole for the fourth successive race after never having previously managed the feat in the 250cc GP class. The last rider to take four or more consecutive poles in the 250cc class was Tetsuya Harada in 2001. Elias' pole position time is the fastest ever lap of the Sepang circuit by a 250cc machine. His team-mate Fonsi Nieto, the winner last year in Sepang, starts from the front row for the first time since the Czech GP.

Manuel Poggiali starts from the front row for the eleventh time in 2003. After finishing on the podium four times in the first nine races of this year, Poggiali has now scored four consecutive top three results.

Naoki Matsudo starts from the front row for only the second time in his career, the other being at Donington earlier this season when he qualified in fourth place.

Randy De Puniet has qualified in the top five places on the grid at every race in 2003 with the exception of the opening race of the year in Japan.
