Porto gets factory Aprilia ride for 2004

Sebastian Porto will be a factory Aprilia in the 250cc World Championship next season after signing a deal with the Italian factory in Valencia this weekend. The Argentinean, who has endured a disappointing first season with Honda in 2003, revealed his delight at the switch after his final race with the Japanese factory on Sunday evening.

"During the weekend I sealed everything with Aprilia and I am now a factory Aprilia rider," said Porto, who will make it three different manufacturers in three seasons having ridden for Yamaha in 2002. "I am very happy because this is the first time I have closed a deal before the end of the year. I am not sure what team I will be riding with but that is now up to Aprilia. I have signed a deal directly with them and the only thing I know is that I will get full support like Manuel Poggiali. It is a different project and one I am very excited about because I know I am going to have a competitive bike next year."

Porto added that he did not know when will ride the championship winning machine for the first time but insisted that, for the time being, he did not want to even think about it. "My only thought now is to get some rest, return to Argentina and spend some time there before the hard work starts again. I know that next year will be my year and I am going to get myself mentally prepared to make the most of it."
