Debón recovering at home after surgery

Alex Debón returned home yesterday after undergoing an operation on his finger on Monday. The Spaniard was taken straight to hospital in Valencia after the race on Sunday and underwent a five and a half hour operation the following morning repairing major damage to the fifth digit on his left hand sustained in Malaysia three weeks ago. Debon was also treated for injuries to his collarbone and ankle and is now hoping to be fully fit for the start of the new season.

"In the end the surgeons were unable to save the tendon, which was cut in two places, and my finger is now completely immobile," explained the 27 year old, who rode to a brave tenth place in his home race on Sunday, after racing with the lead group on the opening laps. "They have done a skin graft on the finger, using skin from the collarbone, and now we just have to wait and hope it heals properly. I will have a check-up next web but for the moment the most important thing is that the suffering is over and my physical problems are on the way to being fixed."

Debón, who finished the championship in eleventh place, is hoping to seal a new deal to continue in the series very shortly.
