Aprilia support ‘Aspar' in Barbera conflict

In the wake of statements made in the Spanish national press by Hector Barbera that he was leaving the 125cc team run by Jorge Martinez ‘Aspar' to join Seedorf Racing in 2004, the following joint announcement was made on Wednesday night by Team Aspar and Aprilia Technical Director Jan Witteveen:

After a meeting held today at the Circuit de la Comunitat Valenciana Ricardo Tormo and with the 2003 World championship now over, with regard to the situation involving the rider Héctor Barberá, Aprilia would like to express that:

1 - After eight years working together with Aprilia, the Circuit de la Comunitat Valenciana Ricardo Tormo and Team Aspar have developed a satisfactory relationship on all three parts. The number one team in Spain in the 125cc category is Team Aspar, taking into account their track record, team of professionals and the work that they have completed over the past few years.

2 - Aprilia's policy implies respect for signed and active contracts between riders and teams or institutions.

3 - Aprilia regrets the unpleasant and uncomfortable situation which the rider Héctor Barberá is proposing and hopes that it is resolved as soon as possible for the good of both motorcycle racing and the rider.
