Ducati to take on Italian air force!

Loris Capirossi will be involved in one final race on the Ducati before the end of 2003. However, the Italian former 250cc World Champion won't be pitting his 332.4 km/h Desmosedici against other motorcycles on this occasion, but taking on an F104 Starfire of the 9th Fighter Wing and the Italian airbase of Grazzanise (Caserta).

This weekend the Ducati-fanatical squadron, who have painted one of their jets bright red, will take on their favourite rider in a head to head race between the Desmosedici and F104 Starfire. The two red "rockets" will race down two parallel tracks, prepared especially for the event by the military authorities. Special electronic equipment will measure the time and velocity of the motorcycle and jet.

Whilst Saturday afternoon will be dedicated to testing, finding the best set-up for the motorcycle and aeroplane, and guaranteeing safety procedures for the event, the race will take place on Sunday. Vittoriano Guareschi, Ducati's MotoGP tester, will partner up with Capirossi for the race. The event will also include a restricted number of Ducati fans who will be able to walk the runway and admire the two machines.
