Poggiali and De Angelis to be honoured in San Marino

250cc World Champion Manuel Poggiali and 125cc World Championship runner-up Alex De Angelis are to be honoured in their native San Marino at a special ceremony on the 4th December. The two youngsters, who will come face-to-face in the quarter-litre class next season, will be honoured during an event named "Campioni per la storia" at the Multieventi Sport Domus festival. The occasion, organised by the Secretary of State for Tourism, Commerce, Sport and Transport, represents a chance for the small nation to celebrate the achievements of its two most successful sportsmen and even meet them in person.

"As soon as Manuel Poggiali won his title in Valencia we wanted to arrange a party so that the public could get to meet him," said the Secretary of State, Paride Andreoli. "His triumph was something never before achieved by this country in motorcycle racing and it came in his rookie season, whilst Alex finished runner-up in the 125 class thanks to his consistent form in the races. Thanks to these results, in such a popular showcase as motorcycle racing, San Marino's image of itself is increased through the pride of seeing the colours of its flag on the top step of the podium."
