Talmacsi comments on Malaguti deal

Gabor Talmacsi is facing a busy off-season developing the 125cc Malaguti machine for the 2004 World Championship season. The Hungarian, who had partnered Steve Jenkner during the 2003 campaign riding an Aprilia has been getting some much needed track time with his new team in the last month by contesting the final two rounds of the competitive Spanish CEV Championship.

The 23 year old here explains how the agreement with the scooter manufacturer (who scored 11 points in '03 in the hands of Julian Simon and Fabrizio Lai) came about and expectations for his first term on the bike:

"I was planning to stay with my old team but the main Italian sponsors wanted an Italian rider and there was no offer. So Simoncelli took my place and together with my manager we started to look around for other options in the 125cc class. I really enjoy and want to stay in the 125s and the best deal was with Malaguti."

"At the moment the mechanical base from which we are working is not so bad but we have a lot of work planned for the winter and I am expecting it to be a competitive bike for next season."

I had been watching the development of the Malaguti and was encouraged. Being able to ride the last two rounds of the Spanish Championship was helpful and the lap-times were OK. I am testing some new parts next week including a spoiler. This project has a lot of potential and if we can get it sorted for next year then we will do well."

"It is early and too difficult to talk about what kind of results we will be capable of but I aiming for consistent top tens at least. Whether or not we might be able to win is impossible to say until we have the new bike."
