Official MotoGP website figures double in 2003

The boom in interest in the MotoGP World Championship during the 2003 season has been clearly reflected by the popularity of the series' official website, www.motograndprix.com, which has more than doubled its viewing figures on the previous season. The website received almost 34 million visits over the course of the calendar year – up 17 million on 2002 – with over 10 million unique visitors.

Peak traffic at www.motograndprix.com was recorded during the opening round of the season at Suzuka in April, when over 2.5million visits to the site were made during two weeks. Other major peaks were noted during the African round at Welkom, with over a million visits in the week leading up to the race, and during the weeks of the Catalunya Grand Prix and Dutch TT in June, which both attracted over 800,000 visits.

The vast amount of content now available at www.motograndprix.com, including race reports, rider interviews, statistics, profiles, expert opinion and technical features, as well as access to the official championship database, meant that the number of pages visited during the year reached a massive total of over 500 million. Each unique visitor absorbed an average of 45 pages of information, whilst updated servers and improved technical back-up reduced their online expenses as they racked up over 2 million connected hours.

Available in English, Italian, Spanish, French and Japanese versions, www.motograndprix.com has more than 127,000 registered subscribers from all over the world. This total is set to rise still further in 2004, thanks to the launch of a new-look website which will also include Dutch and Portuguese versions. There is also a project for an Arabic site to be prepared.

As well as the individual language information sections, the ‘B-zone' of www.motograndprix.com, offers a wealth of live multimedia features, including video coverage of every Grand Prix and live timing from practice, qualifying and the races. Its extensive multimedia archive also includes highlights and full race videos covering over a decade of MotoGP racing, key rider interviews, spectacular crash footage, on-board laps of all the MotoGP circuits, photo galleries and video tributes to the MotoGP Legends and World Champions.
