Capirossi back in training ahead of February tests

Loris Capirossi is back in his regular training routine after a relaxing Christmas holiday although he faces a frustrating wait before his first test of 2004 with Ducati. The former 250cc World Champion, who finished fourth in last season's MotoGP World Championship – his first with the Italian factory – is not set to ride the new version of the Desmosedici until February, with test rider Vittoriano Guareschi pencilled in for a two-day shakedown on the 24th and 25th January at Valencia. Capirossi will then link up with his factory team-mate Troy Bayliss and MotoGP new boys Neil Hodgson and Ruben Xaus for a three day session on the 11th, 12th and 13th February at Sepang.

"I only wanted to relax and unwind during the holidays and it's exactly what I did," said Capirossi. "I spent Christmas day in Italy with my family and Ingrid's family at my parents' house in Riolo, near Ravenna. The next day, Ingrid and I went straight back to Monaco where we spent the last few days of the year. On New Year's eve, we had a big dinner at home and then we were off to Montecarlo to see the celebrations when the clock struck midnight.

The Italian, who has been making various appearances on national television shows, added that he has had no problems keeping himself occupied as he waits in earnest for the upcoming tests and a promising new season. "After so much food I immediately went back to training, because I can feel this is going to be a very important year and I don't want to leave anything to chance; everything must be perfect this year. For example, the other day I did some trial riding in the French Alps with my friend Jurgen van den Goorbergh – it was a fantastic ride and I had the time of my life. Trials really is a great sport. However, I do different things to train. I alternate several sports such as gym training, swimming, running and cycling.

"Before the February tests in Malaysia, I have a few places to go, including Madonna di Campiglio where I'm supposed to do a kart race against the Ferrari drivers but for now, let me just wish you all a great 2004."
