De Puniet even faster on second day in Jerez

The factory Aprilia 250cc squad continued their preseason testing schedule in the company of several privateer teams at the Spanish circuit of Jerez on Tuesday. Randy De Puniet again set the pace, improving his scorching effort from Monday by two tenths despite cool ambient tempertures ranging between 15 and 17º.

The Frenchman's unofficial lap time of 1'43.6 was three tenths quicker than Daijiro Kato's pole record and almost a second quicker than current World Champion and factory rival Manuel Poggiali, who nevertheless improved his time from the first day by half a second. Sebastián Porto improved by the same margin whilst fellow Aprilia debutant Alex De Angelis made significent progress on the second day, shaving 1.5 seconds off his time to record a 1'45.7 - the fourth fastest lap of the day ahead of more experienced 250cc riders such as Anthony West and Fonsi Nieto.

The third and final day of testing takes place on Wednesday, although some of the riders will move north on Friday and lap alongside the Italian factory's MotoGP team, who begin two days of testing at Valencia with Jeremy McWilliams and Shane Byrne.
