Dovizioso confirms Le Mans potential

Andrea Dovizioso backed up a strong record at the Le Mans circuit with pole position for tomorrow's 125cc race in the final qualifying session this afternoon. The championship leader, who went from pole to the podium here one year ago, managed to improve his time from yesterday by just two tenths of a second as the riders struggled to match their provisional qualifying performances in much warmer track conditions than yesterday.

Jorge Lorenzo was one of several riders that failed to improve their times but he held on to second place on the grid despite the attentions of Hector Barbera, who came to within 0.096 seconds of his Spanish compatriot. Roberto Locatelli also stepped up his efforts and sealed the outside front row slot in fourth place.

Local favourite Mike Di Meglio made significant improvement on his provisional time and moved up seven places to join the second row in eighth place behind experienced trio Mirko Giansanti, Steve Jenkner and Youichi Ui.

Casey Stoner, who had contested the top positions yesterday before crashing out, was suffering from the effects of an injury to his shoulder and dropped all the way down to 18th position, although he is expected to start the race. German youngster Georg Fröhlich, due to make the second of nine planned wildcard appearances this year, is also injured and has been ruled out.
