Bayliss enjoying his holidays in Monaco

Troy Bayliss says he is happy to be on holiday and spending time with his family at home in Monaco after a tough first half of the MotoGP season. The Ducati Marlboro Team rider lies fourteenth in the World Championship standings after nine rounds but was back on the pace at Donington Park, lapping in the front group and crossing the line fifth after an entertaining battle with Nicky Hayden – a result he believes gives him every reason to look forward to the rest of the campaign.

"Summer break is here and everyone is pretty happy about it – all the workers, especially the people you don't get to see, putting things up and taking them down… it's a big operation for all those involved," commented Bayliss.

"The calendar has been strange this year and a lot of people are complaining about it. I guess it's not easy because there are a lot of other sporting events and it all has to fit in accordingly.

"With my three weeks I am just spending time with Kim [his wife] and the kids. They are all well and love summer. We've been spending a lot of time water skiing in the Mediterranean.

"Kim and Mitch are wake boarding and Abbey is mono skiing. I'm on the beach with Olly who is running amuck. This is definitely the future family sport. It's something we all do together and have a great time.

"Back to bikes, Donington was a good weekend and even though I thought it should have been a bit better I'm content and can actually sleep at night. I've said it before – it's been ok for a while but we needed to sort out a few things and now it's looking good.

"It's been a difficult season for all of us at Ducati but everyone has been working very hard and it's finally starting to pay off."
