De Angelis targets first win

Alex de Angelis goes into tomorrow's 250cc race at Phillip Island brimming with confidence after qualifying on the front row of the grid for the seventh time in 2004, his debut season in the class. Although the San Marino rider slipped from his provisional pole position to second place on the grid for tomorrow's 25-lap race, he has set a consistent race pace and is confident of his chances.

"It was a pity that I missed out on pole position but the time made by Porto was very fast," said De Angelis. "I could have made a better time but today there was a lot of traffic when I tried to get my head down and push.

"I also made a mistake because I didn't realise how close it was to the end of the session so missed out on the chance to properly use my final qualifying tyre.

"I really like this track and tomorrow I am aiming for a really good result because we have been consistent all weekend. My race pace is really good and we should be challenging at the front."
