Gresini excited by Fortuna Honda team

Fausto Gresini's team was one of the first in the MotoGP category to unveil their plans for next season. Backed by sponsor Fortuna, the Italian team revealed their 2006 line-up just hours after the 2005 season finished in Valencia last weekend. Marco Melandri, World Championship runner-up, and Toni Elias, Rookie of the Year, will form one of the youngest and most talented pairings in the premier class. Gresini admits he is excited by the new team he has put together.

"I am very happy with this new agreement. It lasts for two years which is very important as it is a long-term project," Gresini stated.

"We brought forward the presentation so that we could start work as soon as possible and in a calm manner. It's a great opportunity, with the support of Honda and Michelin, and with two great riders in Marco Melandri – who has already shown what he can do – and Toni Elias – who is an emerging talent. I think they are the new generation in MotoGP."

Indeed, Gresini believes Elias is now ready to make a huge impact on the MotoGP championship after serving his apprenticeship last term. "He is a rider who was ridden with Fortuna for three years now. Having had a year's experience in MotoGP we believe in his potential and believe he can get good results on a Honda. We are delighted to have him."
