Melandri takes well-deserved break

The 2005 season may have finished at Valencia on November 6th for MotoGP fans, but most riders had a gruelling schedule between that final race and the winter break with commitments such as promotional events, exhibitions and so on to fit in. One of the busiest was Fortuna Honda's Marco Melandri, but the Italian can now enjoy a well-earned rest after starring in last week's Bologna Motorshow.

"I'm flying once again, but this time I'm off to a sunny island for a well-deserved break and to relax a bit," said Melandri. "Even after the test in Malaysia, it had been pretty hectic and I was quite busy, but now it's finally over."

"We are also planning a trip to the States for early January to get started with an intensive training programme. I did some work out at the gym, but I'll need to do some more exercise right after Christmas as the idea is to improve my endurance on the bike."

"Since 2001 I have spent most of my winters recovering from injuries - I must have injured myself three times during the previous pre-seasons. This time I'll make sure I'm in the best possible shape for the beginning of the championship."

Melandri will be back in his native Ravenna next weekend as he is to be honoured by the town for his brilliant 2005 campaign which saw him take two victories and second overall behind Valentino Rossi.
