Barros to host event at Interlagos

Whilst he has still to confirm his destination for 2006, Alex Barros has been enjoying the winter break back in his native Brazil but, as ever, has not strayed very far from the track. Next week he will meet some lucky riders for the 'Alex Track Days' event, held at the Interlagos circuit, near Sao Paulo.

The participants will have an unique opportunity to ride alongside the Brazilian veteran who will also be joined by his younger brother Cesar - a former GP rider, and local stars Gilson Scudeler, Bruno Corano and Pablo Martins.

Barros also had some four-wheel fun last weekend as he entered the Stars Challenge, a kart competition for which he teamed up with Ferrari F1 driver Felipe Massa. It gave him the opportunity to check on his fitness levels following the abdominal surgery he underwent just after the end of the MotoGP season.

"It was really hot on Saturday and this was tough on our physical preparation, especially in my case because I had been taking antibiotics and was weaker than I expected," commented Barros. "I felt good, put an abdominal belt to avoid forcing the cuts from the operation and went out on the track. By the end of the day I was worn out. I had a lot of fun but got tired as well. I also had the chance to ride a Supermoto machine on the dirt-track, I hadn't ridden on the dirt for over 10 years and I really enjoyed myself."
