Official Catalunya Test starts next week

As the 2006 season draws ever closer, MotoGP prepares itself for the Official Catalunya Test. The riders are back, refreshed and raring to go, and the technicians eager to find new ways to squeeze every last drop of power from the new bikes. The preseason action has already thrown up a few surprises, but there are surely more twists to come ahead of March 26th's Spanish Grand Prix in Jerez.

Starting on Tuesday February 28th, the Official Catalunya Test sees a staggered stay in Montmeló for teams in all three categories. The 125cc teams are the first to take to the track, joined on the Wednesday by the 250cc riders. The quarter litre outfits then have an isolated session on Thursday, before the MotoGP premier class riders begin three days of testing from Friday until the session's end on Sunday.

The final day of testing is sure to be an exciting event, as it plays host to the annual BMW M Award competition. A frenetic forty minutes in which riders compete to earn the fastest lap starts at just after 2pm, with a brand new BMW Z4 M Roadster going to the winner. Previous winners include Valentino Rossi and Sete Gibernau.

Sunday's race against the clock for the car will be covered live and in full by motogp.com, available to subscribers to the Official Catalunya Test package. Results and up-to-the-minute news will also appear on the website.
