Alongside the MotoGP spectaculars of last weekend, Qatar also played host to the 20 lap final round of the QNB Losail Cup.

The winner of the Cup, in which all riders competed onboard Yamaha R6, was Sultan Al-Naimi, who earned the chance to train with Luis d'Antin in Spain and compete in the Spanish National Championship.

The National Cup has been running for two years, with races held from January to April to avoid the intense heat at the Losail Circuit. Nasser Khalifa Al-Attiyah, President of the Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation, eulogised the competition in a statement.

"I'm honoured to organise this Cup, our country needed something like this to grow in motorcycle competitions. Thanks to the MotoGP World Championship being held for the past few years there has been an increase in interest. The Losail National Cup is a good opportunity for our riders to start in the world of competition. To have riders competing in the Spanish Championship means we are doing a good job."

"I am very proud to be a part of this project. It's very satisfying to help this country become more visible, to raise their hopes in the racing world and to promote motorsport culture," commented Luis d'Antin.
