Wilairot taken away for move to Spain

Thai rider Ratthapark Wilairot makes the move east this month to Spain, the country chosen as the base for his first foray into the 250cc World Championship.

Having signed a deal to become Thailand's first representative on the world stage late last month in Bangkok, Wilairot will begin his preparations for the upcoming season alongside his new team. The outfit will go by the name of Thai Honda PTT SAG, rather than the established names of Stop And Go or A.P. Honda. The newcomer's new home is found close to team headquarters in Sant Fruitos de Bages, where he will have access to training facilities such as a dirt track course at his disposal. It will be a long road ahead for Wilairot, who will also be honing his linguistic skills in addition to any physical program.

Team Owner Eduardo Perales explained his decision to move the rider to pastures new: "We want Ratthapark to feel at home, with anything to aid his adjustment and preparations close to hand. We are well aware of the difficulties encountered by a youngster moving to a different country where he isn't familiar with the culture, religion and way of life, but we are trying our best to put him at ease. Our main goal was to avoid any difficulties in getting to the team factory, the gymnasium and English school, so Sant Fruitos is the ideal compromise."

Thai Honda PTT SAG head to Jerez at the end of the month for their first test.
