Bautista taking in special American atmosphere

Bautista taking in special American atmosphere

Mapfre Aspar 250cc star Alvaro Bautista is enjoying the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix this weekend, visiting California as a guest commentator with Spanish television.

With the summer break already underway for the lower cylinder class riders Alvaro Bautista is keeping himself busy as a contributor for Spanish national broadcasters TVE at Laguna Seca.

Following in the footsteps of Jorge Lorenzo, who as 250cc champion fulfilled a similar role last year during his second title-winning season, has added to speculation that Bautista could be set for a promotion to the premier class in 2009, but the Aspar rider played it cool when asked about any such plans.

`I still don´t know if I will be riding here next year,´ stated the 23 year-old former 125cc World Champion. `The main thing is to make sure I do ride here one day. That would obviously be a good thing, though honestly I don´t think about when that will be.´

Describing the venue for this weekend´s Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix, Bautista continued, `This track is different to all the others on the calendar. The most impressive things are the ups and downs and the most amazing part of the circuit is the corkscrew, which is like a sheer drop and is pretty impressive. It is a really nice place so I would like to ride here and see how that is.´

When asked about the task of switching from riding to journalism for his Spanish TV role the likeable youngster replied, `It is a novel experience and is totally different to my normal work. Perhaps it is less stressful and I have more free time than when I am riding. Anyway it has been interesting so far and I´ve enjoyed it.´

Meanwhile, on his 2008 title challenge, Bautista concluded, `After the break we need to go back in working as hard as ever and see if our results and our luck improves a little bit. We don´t need to obsess too much about winning the title, we just have to carry on as we did in the last few races, fighting for the podium and trying to do as well as possible.´
