Hayden manager comments on American´s Czech absence

Phil Baker, manager of Repsol Honda rider Nicky Hayden, has given an update on the 2006 World Champion´s foot injury after the news this week that he is to miss out at Brno.

An absentee from the Cardion ab Grand Prix Ceske republiky due to a knock on his heel at the X Games Supermoto event in the U.S. on 2nd August, Nicky Hayden is highly disappointed to be missing round twelve of the MotoGP season.

His manager Phil Baker told in Brno, `He´ll be back for Misano. He is incredibly frustrated that he can´t be here as it is one of his favourite tracks and he had a good podium here last year. It was just one of those little incidents, he didn´t actually crash but he cracked a bone in his heal where a lot of weight is applied.´

Hayden had visited Dr Arthur Ting and got the opinion of other specialists before the decision not to travel to the Czech Republic was made this week.

`It was felt best,´ continued Baker. `I think if you look down the paddock at the number of riders who have come back too soon and their injuries have been prolonged because of that, it was felt by the doctors, by Nicky, by ourselves that it was much better for him to give himself an extra period to let the injury heal.´

Asked whether Hayden´s 2009 MotoGP plans will be confirmed in the near future Baker replied, `Things are developing, they are coming along, though there is still nothing to announce to the press and make public at this stage. The negotiations are ongoing and we are gradually getting there. There is some interesting stuff out there.´

The Czech contest will be the first race that Hayden has missed since the 2004 Portuguese round and in addition he also misses two days of important post-race testing to be held at Brno on Monday and Tuesday.
