CEV Buckler heads to Albacete

CEV Buckler heads to Albacete

The Spanish National Championship (CEV) checks into the Circuito de Albacete in Castilla-La Mancha this weekend for the fifth round of the season.

The Buckler sponsored Spanish National Championship (Campeonato de Espana de Velocidad - CEV) this weekend visits Albacete for the second time this season, for the fifth round of the 2008 competition - in what is considered to be one of the strongest domestic series in the world.

Riders from the three championship categories will be in attendance as always: Formula Extreme (1000cc), Supersport (600cc) and 125GP - with World Championship competitor Efren Vazquez (Aprilia) leading the way in the smaller class.

Indeed the 125cc battle is heating up nicely, with no rider thus far able to record more than one win. Just behind Vazquez in the standings are Jerez race winner Luis Salom (Aprilia) in second place, and Pere Tutusaus (Aprilia) in third position, on the back of two consecutive podiums.

The likes of Ricard Cardus (Derbi), Joey Litjens (SEEL 125) and Adrian Martin (Aprilia) will also be looking for rostrum results in Albacete, whilst MotoGP Red Bull Academy rider Cameron Beauvier (KTM) returns to action after a spell out due to injury.

There is a similarly tight battle for honours taking place in Formula Extreme, where Jose Luis Cardoso (Suzuki) currently sits top of the table with an eight point advantage over joint second placed pair Carmelo Morales (Yamaha) and Javier del Amor (Yamaha) – Morales having won the last two 1000cc races.

Cardoso is still the man to beat though, with his 100% pole record thus far this year putting him ahead of his rivals as the title fight ignites. Other names worth keeping an eye on this weekend will be Bernat Martinez (Yamaha), Kenny Noyes (Suzuki) and Enrique Rocamora (Suzuki), who all have the capacity to run at a competitive pace.

In Supersport, however, leader Angel Rodriguez (Yamaha) is already a clear title favourite having taken the pole and race win double at every round so far. Rivals such as Kev Coghlan (Honda), Arturo Tizon (Suzuki) and Dani Rivas (Suzuki) will be aiming to halt the Rodriguez roadshow at round five.

Saturday´s qualifying action will get underway from 9am Spanish time with the promotional Kawasaki Ninja Cup event, the same series which will get the ball rolling on race day on Sunday at 10.45am. The CEV Buckler schedule sees the Supersport, Formula Extreme and 125GP contests get started at 11.45am, 12.45pm and 2pm respectively.
