Lorenzo wants podium finish at Sepang

Back on form, but in fourth place at the last two rounds, Jorge Lorenzo wants to step back onto the rostrum at the Polini Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix.

Fiat Yamaha´s 21 year-old Spanish star Jorge Lorenzo is on a decent run of form since his return to the podium in Misano at the end of August and now he is aiming for a top three finish again at Malaysia having just missed out in fourth place in Japan and Australia.

Also fourth in World Championship classification at present Lorenzo could tie-up the 2008 MotoGP Rookie of the Year award this weekend, given that he currently has a 37-point advantage over nearest rival Andrea Dovizioso. In fact Lorenzo is still in with a chance of finishing third overall, sitting 27 points behind Dani Pedrosa in the standings with two rounds remaining.

`We´ve scored decent results over the last four races so I´m optimistic going into the final two rounds of my rookie MotoGP season,´ commented Lorenzo. `We´ve got a couple of fourth places recently so now I´d like to get back on the podium. I hope and believe that Michelin will come up with some tyres that give slightly better performance than in Japan and Australia, where we were just a little bit short of being with the best.´

Furthermore Sepang has been a happy hunting ground for Lorenzo in the past, as he won the 250cc race there two years ago and secured his second World title in the quarter litre category with third place there last year.

He also tested at the hot and humid South East Asian venue three times during his successful 2007-08 winter adaptation to the 800cc Yamaha M1 and is typically confident about the penultimate round of his debut season in the premier class.

The man from Mallorca stated, `I´m looking forward to arriving in Malaysia and going to a quite a fast circuit, which I like and where most importantly we´ve tested already this year and things didn´t go badly.´

`Sepang is well known for the heat and the changeable conditions; one minute it can be boiling hot and then the next it´s throwing down with rain. I´ll be training hard this week to stay in good shape and finish off a positive trip around the Pacific.´

Adding to the positive atmosphere in the Lorenzo camp as the season nears its conclusion his Team Manager Daniele Romagnoli added, `We fought for pole position in the last round at Phillip Island and quite honestly we were a little disappointed not to be on the podium. It would be great to make up for that this weekend but whatever happens Jorge has already surpassed our expectations for him this season so there is absolutely no pressure on him – we just want him to enjoy himself and to do his best.´
