Simoncelli warms-up quickest at Le Mans

World Champion ahead of the pack in early Sunday session.

Metis Gilera’s 250cc title holder Marco Simoncelli went round quickest in the early 250cc Sunday session at Le Mans as the riders prepared for the afternoon’s fourth race of the season.

The track was dry but rain is forecast for later, meaning the riders will have to think fast and make appropriate tweaks as the day goes on, but the warm-up session saw Simoncelli wake up quicker than his rivals with a 1’39.271 best effort. Series leader Hiroshi Aoyama (Scot Racing) was second, as the only other rider to go under the 1’40 mark.

Thomas Luthi (Emmi – Caffe Latte), Mike di Meglio (Mapfre Aspar) and Álex Debón (Aeropuerto Castello-Blusens), were all in the top five, whilst Mattia Pasini (Team Toth), Ratthapark Wilairot (Thai Honda PTT SAG), Raffaele de Rosa (Scot Racing), Álvaro Bautista (Mapfre Aspar) and Karel Abraham (Cardion AB Motoracing) were all in the top ten.

Sadly for home rider Jules Cluzel of the Matteoni Racing team he misses Sunday’s race due to a right collarbone fracture sustained on Saturday.
