Schwantz picks Rossi, Lorenzo, Pedrosa top three for Sunday race

Former MotoGP World Champion gives predictions for Gran Premio d’Italia Alice.

A winner at Mugello in the ‘pre-Rossi’ era, MotoGP Legend Kevin Schwantz has had his fair share of races at the Italian track. The former MotoGP World Champion, present in the paddock as part of his mentoring role for the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup competitors, made his predictions for the Sunday premier class race after a breathtaking qualifying session, and could not bring himself to bet against the reigning titlist.

“I still think that here at home in Italy Rossi is going to be the one to beat. That’s not to say that Lorenzo, Pedrosa and –who knows?- even Capirossi with some Italian inspiration won’t be able to get up the front though,” said Schwantz, before laying his cards on the table.

“It’s probably going to go Rossi, Lorenzo, Pedrosa on the podium.”

And his own memories of riding at the Tuscan circuit during his active career?

“I retired here at Mugello, so maybe that’s the fondest memory… only kidding, it really is a fantastic track, and maybe winning here in 1992 and beating a Honda that hadn’t been off the top step in five races was the best moment here. Everything about this place is what MotoGP is all about.”
