Capirossi positive about Indianapolis visit

On the back of his good performance at Brno Loris Capirossi is in a positive mood ahead of the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix.

Buoyed by a solid result in Brno at round 11 and a productive test on the Monday after the race in the Czech Republic, Loris Capirossi wants to maintain the positive momentum this weekend at Indianapolis.

Capirossi and his Rizla Suzuki team-mate Chris Vermeulen were given chassis and engine updates to their GSV-R machines for the Czech round and they will seek to up the pace at The Brickyard, as they look to improve on their championship positions at the lower end of the top ten.

Last season in the maiden MotoGP visit to Indianapolis Capirossi was classified in 16th place when the hurricane conditions interrupted the race and he will obviously be striving for much better this time around, as he looks to build on his fifth place finish at Brno.

Ahead of the Indy weekend Capirossi stated, “I didn't really get on the pace there last year, so I was very disappointed about that and I will be looking to put that right this year. We had an encouraging performance at Brno and also discovered a few things during the test on the Monday that will improve things for the rest of the season. I am going to America in a very positive frame of mind and am determined to fight for everything we can for the rest of the year.”

Vermeulen, meanwhile, is also convinced that he can improve on his showing from Brno (he finished 11th) as he aims for a strong conclusion to the season during the remaining six races.

The Australian rider, who was ninth last year at the venue for this weekend’s racing, commented, “I’m looking forward to going to Indianapolis, as it is such an amazing venue and a really well organised event. We didn’t really get the best result last year as the race was hit by a hurricane and had to be stopped early, so I hope the weather is a lot better this year. We made a big step with bike at Brno in the last GP and although the result wasn’t what we wanted, we certainly have a clear indication of how the new engine will work in the remaining races. We need to be on the pace as quickly as possible at Indy and see what we can do.”
