Garzo grabs a maiden pole position ahead of Spinelli, Ferrari P14

The Spaniard secured pole position ahead of Spinelli and Granado after a dramatic qualifying that set the grid

The FIM Enel MotoE™ World Championship is back in action at the Michelin® Grand Prix de France for the second round of an intense season. It was a thrilling qualifying from start to finish with Hector Garzo (Dynavolt Intact GP MotoE™) storming to pole position at Le Mans. Garzo improved throughout the session, crossing the line to end qualifying with a new lap record after a sensational 1:39.995. Nicholas Spinelli (Tech3 E-Racing) was a mere 0.031s away from pole position, impressing the field with a front-row start. Eric Granado (LCR E-Team) secured a second front-row start of the season, with all eyes now set on Saturday with some huge names further down the grid.

Kevin Zannoni (Openbank Aspar Team) was the quickest rider in Q1, setting a stunning 1:40.091 to secure a spot in Q2. However, it was not smooth sailing for the Italian, with Alessio Finello's (Felo Gresini MotoE™) bike hitting the rear of Zannoni, putting the #21 out of contention to fight for the pole in Q2. Championship leader Mattia Casadei (LCR E-Team) secured a spot in Q2 – finishing second in Q1.

Once Q2 got underway there was strong pace instantly from Portuguese GP polesitter Granado, who rocketed to the top spot after setting a strong 1:40.577. The Brazilian soon improved before the top spot was taken by Garzo. It was a frantic end to the session, with Spinelli responding before Garzo improved to set a new MotoE™ lap record.

Casadei used all of his experience from Q1 to head the second row of the grid after improving on the #40’s third lap. Oscar Gutierrez (Axxis-MSI) will join the Italian on the second row after setting the most laps in Q2. Jordi Torres qualified in sixth and was the only Openbank Aspar Team bike on track in Q2 after Zannoni's crash.

Alessandro Zaccone (Tech3 E-Racing) qualified in seventh and will head up the third row – 0.321s from the top spot. Axxis-MT’s Miquel Pons brought the #77 machine to eighth on the grid after improving with less than five minutes to go. Lukas Tulovic (Dynavolt Intact GP MotoE™) was ninth, qualifying ahead of some big talents. Further down the grid, Matteo Ferrari (Felo Gresini MotoE™) will start from 14th on the grid after the Italian lost time in the pits in Q1. Joining Ferrari further down the grid is Chas Davies (Aruba Cloud MotoE™ Racing Team), who will be forced to fight from 16th on the grid.

Make sure you tune into both races on Saturday with Race 1 kicking off at 12:15 local time (UTC +2) before Race 2 at 16:10 local time, so make sure you keep up to date on motogp.com!
