Rain-hit Moto2™ warm-up sees Smith on top

In a Moto2™ session that was hit with rain at the half-way point at the Gran Premio Generali de la Comunitat Valenciana it was Tech 3 Racing’s Bradley Smith who came out on top ahead of Dominique Aegerter and Pol Espargaró.

The warm-up had started in the dry, yet near identical crashes by NGM Mobile Forward Racing’s Yuki Takahashi and QMMF Racing’s Rafid Topan Sucipto in the final turn signalled the emergence of rain. The skies soon opened properly and riders were granted approximately six minutes of wet-time, in preparation for what is expected to be a wet race this afternoon.

In the earlier dry conditions it was Smith who set the fastest time of 1.36’791, with Technomag-CIP’s Dominique Aegerter in tow. Today’s pole-sitter, Tuenti Movil HP 40’s Pol Espargaró, was consistently quick in the dry, yet will no doubt be a threat in the wet. Smith’s teammate Xavier Siméon and Espargaró’s teammate Axel Pons completed the top five.
