Quick Rabat outshines competitors in final French practice

The Saturday morning action was wrapped up with the Moto2™ FP3 run led by Esteve Rabat (Marc VDS Racing) at the Monster Energy Grand Prix de France, with Maverick Viñales (Pons HP 40) and Jonas Folger (AGR Team) slotting in behind him on the timesheet.

An impressive 1’37.748s lap by Rabat saw the Kalex rider continue his string of top results in Moto2. Austin winner Viñales was 0.190s back, fellow rookie Folger ended the session third and 0.251s behind the leader.

A strong showing from Julian Simon (Italtrans Racing Team) had him in fourth with  Mattia Pasini (NGM Forward Racing) joining him in the top five. Both riders were within 0.596s of the top as the Moto2 field look ahead to qualifying.

Mika Kallio (Marc VDS Racing), Thomas Luthi (Interwetten Paddock Moto2), Franco Morbidelli (Italtrans Racing Team), Sam Lowes (Speed Up) and Johann Zarco (AirAsia Caterham) rounded off the top ten, all within 0.770s of Rabat.

Xavier Simeon (Federal Oil Gresini Moto2) suffered a small low side at Turn 8 and Viñales also had a fall at Turn 14 in the final minutes of FP3. Both riders were unhurt.
