Iannone returns to the front row

Andrea Iannone claimed his second front row grid spot of the season at the bwin Grand Prix České republiky on his Pramac Racing Ducati on Saturday.

Mugello saw Iannone take his first ever MotoGP™ front row, and the future factory Ducati rider was able to repeat this performance, having shown excellent pace all weekend. A combination of the softer option tyre and a tow from Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda) had Iannone just 0.141s from the pole setting World Champion.

Fellow Ducati rider Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team) pushed Iannone to third with a 1’55.714s. Both Ducati riders have recently received engine and aerodynamic upgrades to their GP14s.

The Indianapolis race ended in disappointment for the Italian after a technical failure. Iannone is aiming to finish in the top five as Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda), Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) and Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) start behind him.

Iannone commented, “Marc helped me a little for this lap. I will have to buy him dinner! But I am happy and I pushed very hard, to do my best in this session. Yesterday was tough for me, but today is better. Thank you to Ducati.”

“I think two Ducatis with two Italians on the front row is very good for Italy. It’s incredible. It is very important for me to challenge and fight with Dovizioso tomorrow as I want to improve my pace and race craft,“ he continued.
