Moving targets for Mcphee in 2014

Moving targets for Mcphee in 2014

SAXOPRINT RTG rider John Mcphee has taken a step forward this year with some top ten results - and his expectations continue to increase.

The Scottish Moto3™ rider sits 13th in the standings mid way through his second full season in Grand Prix, an improvement on ending 2013 in 19th place overall.

“This season we made a big step forward,” states Mcphee. “Not only from me but also from the bike, the new Honda is good. I also have another year of experience. You know, everything is working well. The second season with the team, I built a very nice relationship. Everything is coming together. We have a really strong package and I’m confident with the guys I work with. That always makes a difference.”

Having pushed into the top ten in races on five occasions this season the 20 year-old rider acknowledges that his ambitions have become greater over the course of the year.

He explains, “In the beginning I was around the level I was hoping for. You know, when you get one good result the target is always higher. We are always looking to improve and to go faster. The first races we came to a level around the top ten, around eighth position. In the beginning it was always, if we can finish here it is really good. But now it’s becoming more common for me to be in the top ten. And now we are looking for more. We need the next step, to maybe try to be in the top five. I don’t think the podium is so far away. All the races are really close together. I’m happy with the progress.”

This weekend Mcphee will be proudly representing Scotland at the Hertz British Grand Prix and ahead of the weekend’s racing he states, “In England there are many riders now who are really fast and are coming to the highest levels. So for sure it’s been a great support there. And now for me coming from Scotland, I’m the only rider from Scotland, so now I have much more support also from them. So I think from the UK in total it’s growing, more and more support, year by year, which is great for British riders.”
