Pol Espargaro targets MotoGP™ top five in 2015

Pol Espargaro targets MotoGP™ top five in 2015

The 2014 MotoGP™ Rookie of the Year Pol Espargaro aims to improve on his sixth place overall in the premier class general standings in the forthcoming season, but knows it will not be easy.

The Monster Yamaha Tech 3 rider clinched his top six finish at the last round of 2014, beating his brother Aleix Espargaro and his teammate Bradley Smith, in a friendly rivalry between the three riders.

Renewed challenges from the likes of Ducati, Suzuki and the satellite Hondas will provide good competition again in 2015, but Pol is approaching his sophomore season in a positive manner.

“Our target is to improve on what we did last year, which will not be easy because last year we were in the top five in some races and we finished in sixth overall. That was a good result and will be difficult to beat but that is what we are there for,” said the Spaniard.

Speaking to at the GSeries event in Andorra last weekend, Espargaro also gave his views on the progress being made with his technical package for 2015. He stated, “In Valencia we tested something new with the electronics system and some other new pieces which weren’t really big. But I’m happy with that because we improved the electronics a little bit, we made a little step which we can increase more in the future.”

On his physical preparations he added, “I had a problem with my foot from the injury last year, but now the injury is fixed and everything is perfect. I have been training at altitude in Andorra and it feels good, so I am confident.”
