Aprilia choose the bike they will use for 2015

Aprilia have settled upon the bike they will use for the 2015 MotoGP™ season, after deciding between two variants at the second Sepang test.

The Italian manufacturer has returned to the premier class a year ahead of schedule to allow them to develop an upgraded version of last years ART bike, before debuting an all new prototype machine in 2016. In a recent interview with Crash.net, Aprilia Racing Team Manager Romano Albesiano stated that their aim for the first race in Qatar would be to finish in the points.

He also explained how they decided on the bike they will use and why they feel it gives them the  best platform for development during the season. The factory team brought two versions of their RS-GP bike to Sepang 2, the “Step 1” version they used during last Novembers testing and a new “Step 2” variant, with both Alvaro Bautista and Marco Melandri preferring the Step 1 version.

He stated that while the RS-GP is down on power, they are happy with it’s handling, and one of their main aims for the next test is to develop the traction control in an effort to make up the time they are losing when exiting a corner. He also mentioned that Marco Melandri’s lack of pace could be down to the fact he hasn’t yet adjusted to the Bridgestone tyres used in MotoGP™, and the team hope he can be more competitive in the final preseason test in Qatar.
