Bastianini: “I changed the way I ride the bike”

Gresini Racing Team Moto3 racer Enea Bastianini was one of the stars of the Moto3™ race in Qatar, coming from 21st on the grid to claim 2nd.

The 17-year-old rider from Rimini made a fantastic comeback and ended at 0.027 seconds being the winner in Qatar. Having reached the leading group after only five laps into the race, Bastianini was actually in the lead heading onto the final straight, but he was beaten in the sprint to the line by Frenchman Alexis Masbou.

Enea Bastianini:
“It’s been an incredible race and certainly an unexpected result: during the weekend we had some problems, but we managed to solve them quickly, and above all I changed the way I ride the bike. I believe that this thing made the difference: now I know how to ride this Honda and on this front the support of HRC and of my technicians helped me so much. I also think that in the race I understood many other things that will be useful in the forthcoming races. On the last lap I have not adopted strategies: I took the lead and opened a little gap, I didn’t do any calculations but I just decided to push hard all the way to try to win. I didn’t succeed, but that's okay: I have collected valuable points and I'm delighted”.
