Marquez Blog: One of my most special pole positions

In the latest blog for his Repsol Honda Team, Marc Marquez talks about that amazing pole lap in Austin…

In his official blog for the reigning MotoGP™ World Champion Marc Marquez gives his account of the #AmericasGP:

Hey everybody!
I’m writing to you from Argentina. We never stop, as you can see!

It’s a great feeling to be able to write to you after the first win of the year. In Qatar I didn’t get the result I would have liked, but we weren’t too worried, because the feeling in general was positive.

We know that in Austin we would be able to fight for the win and, even though the track was a bit slippery, I managed to move into first early, get a good rhythm going and maintain the lead. Luckily the weather was good on race day, unlike the first day of the weekend.

These types of races seem easy, but they aren’t. They’re a little boring maybe, even for the rider, but that’s exactly why staying focused is key. We know how to do it, and we managed to get the first win of the year!

As I know you’re going to ask me about Saturday’s pole position, I’ll tell you now, haha! I have to say that it was one of the most special pole positions of my career.

It was a moment of pure adrenaline, there’s no other way to describe it. When I stopped the bike I looked at the time remaining and tried to mentally calculate it as quick as possible. I saw that I had time to try it, not much, but it was there. That’s why I didn’t want to lose a single second and I ran for the second bike.

In the heat of the moment, I can’t deny that was the best moment of the entire weekend, even better than the race itself.

By the way, to round out the weekend, before the Grand Prix I planted a tree in the Garden of Champions of the Circuit of the Americas. That tree will represent me here from now on as 2014 MotoGP Champion, which is a great honor. It’s a really cool initiative, and I’m happy to have been able to participate in it.

At the moment we can’t disconnect even for a minute, because this weekend we have another GP that will be as demanding as the last, if not more so. We’ve already seen that the Ducatis are putting up a good fight, that Rossi is very fast, and I don’t doubt that Lorenzo will also move on up and fight for wins. So we have to concentrate 100%.

The Termas circuit is one that will also suit my brother Álex, I think. He’s learning well, little by little, in a category that’s not easy.

Before I say goodbye, I want to mention someone who has been an extraordinary help to me and Álex in our careers: Joan Moreta. A great friend has left us, a person who gave everything for our sport. Rest in peace.

Question of the week:

What do you most like about the fact that you and your brother both do the same thing? (Question sent by Elisa)

Hey Elisa! It’s hard to think of just one thing to tell you, but it surely has to be the fact that we can train together, learn together, challenge each other, exchange information… Sharing so many things from our work, which is also our great passion.

Speak to you all next week,
