Leopard Racing’s Danny Kent discusses his third Moto3™race win in a row at the Spanish GP in his latest blog for motogp.com:
So three wins in a row is an amazing feeling and a dream start to the year, I just need to keep my feet on the ground and keep working hard as it’s a long year and I just need to be consistent now and collect points.
This race was a lot closer for me compared to the two before, I really enjoyed the fight between me, Fabio, and Miguel, but of course I would have preferred it if I could have pulled away and didn’t have to wait until the last corner of the last lap to try and win the race haha! I believe there will be many more races where I will have to fight hard for podium positions but I also believe that there will be races where I can pull away again, I've done it twice so I can't see why we can't do it again.
A lot of people have asked what when through my mind when I saw Fabio’s front wheel come into view on the last corner. To be honest I didn't see his front wheel, I felt a rider come in to the side of me before I even saw something, next thing I know, Fabio went wide into the final corner. We were both very lucky not to crash, I was just happy to stay on the bike and get 25 points.
It’s a good feeling to have a 31-point lead, but I still have a lot of hard work to do, its a long year and there are a lot more points available. The goal for me now is to just keep working hard and to try to be as consistent as possible. We have done the hard work for now, which was to get a small points lead, I just have to try and keep it like this. We have had a great start to the year and we can't expect to go to every race and win, sometimes I will have to settle for points, because as we all know…points make prizes! But of course when I think I can win, I will give it my 100% maximum!
We had a positive test on the Tuesday after the race, we wanted to confirm our setting and to try a few things to see if we could make a step forward. I have a great feeling with the bike and with the team and I think we will only get stronger as the year goes on. We tried a new front and rear tyre from Dunlop, which we will have to use for the rest of the year, and luckily I had a good feeling with both tyres and I was able to improve on my lap time from the race weekend!
After Jerez I flew directly to Luxembourg to see the sponsors and I will be staying here until Le Mans. I will be working hard on my fitness so that I can go to Le Mans feeling strong.
Things have definitely been a bit more hectic this season, but I think it has to be expected and its normal, when you are doing very well a lot more people notice you and congratulate you. When results are good you have to do a lot more interviews with radio stations, websites, magazines and lots more, and all this kind of stuff gets you recognised more.
A question I get asked a lot is do I have any fun in my time off? Of course, I’m still only 21 so I can still have fun with friends and family, but also with motorsport you have to keep fit, so I spend a lot of time preparing myself for each races. I've got myself into the position where I can fight for the championship so I will always give my 100% maximum at home, and at the circuit to keep strong.
Thanks to everyone for all the support, I really appreciate it!
