Dovizioso: “I didn’t think I’d struggle so much”

Difficult start to the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya for Ducati’s Andrea Dovizioso.

FP1 saw Andrea Dovizioso down in ninth position, with Yonny Hernandez (Octo Pramac Racing) claiming the top Ducati honours in sixth. This surprised Dovizoso who thought he would not struggle as much, if at all.

Fourth place in FP2 was a dramatic improvement for the factory Ducati rider, able to improve his time by over a second. He and his Ducati team were able to improve the braking with the bike, but he admits there’s still work to do.

Andrea Dovizioso: “Today went differently to how I expected it to go: I didn’t think I’d struggle so much and thought I’d be quick right out of the box. Instead it was difficult for me to get into the right rhythm. For the moment I don’t have the feeling I want: probably the bike’s behaviour won’t change very much on this track over the weekend, but I am sure that we will find a way to be quicker and in any case today we’ve already improved the bike in the braking points. I’m not particularly worried because I’m working well with the team and I’m sure we will find the right direction tomorrow.”
