Lorenzo: “First place with the normal tyres”

The Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya sees Jorge Lorenzo continue his run of front row starts as he secures third.

Movistar Yamaha MotoGP’s Jorge Lorenzo was delighted to start from the front row of the grid at his home Grand Prix despite a small mistake at Turn 3. The Mallorcan saved tyres during practice in order to allow him to do three runs in Q2 as opposed to the two run strategy used by the other MotoGP™ riders.

Once again the soft tyres played a role in Qualifying as Team Suzuki Ecstar secured first and second on the grid. Lorenzo understands the advantage offered by the softer compound and was happy to be ahead of the Repsol Honda duo who are capable of incredible speed over one lap. The Mallorcan's race pace once again looks formidable as he seeks to win four races in a row for the first time in his MotoGP™ career.

Jorge Lorenzo: “Yeah, we made a great job during the two days of practice to save the tyres for qualifying so we had three instead of two. This let us have another change to be faster. But in Turn 3 I went wide and I went on the bumps, losing three tenths. I Could have done a 1’40.5. To be the first place with the normal tyres is a great feeling as the Hondas are very fast over one lap.”
