Viñales: “I want to fight with the top guys”

Viñales: “I want to fight with the top guys”

In just his seventh MotoGP™ race Maverick Viñales will start from the front row.

The Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya has so far been a magical weekend for Team Suzuki Ecstar, producing Suzuki’s first 1-2 since the 1993 Spanish Grand Prix. Engine upgrades have allowed both Suzuki riders to close the gap to the other factory bikes, now able to stay with the Yamaha riders down the straight.

Soft tyres helped Viñales to produce a 1’40.629, just 0.083s off his teammate’s pole time. This second place starts adds to the already impressive rookie season of Viñales and demonstrates the hard work of the Suzuki outfit. Under no illusions, Viñales is aware it will be a tough race on Sunday but is eager to fight.

Maverick Viñales: “We were so close to pole! Honestly we are so happy, we’re working really hard. Since Mugello we’ve made a big step, we have a bit of advantage with the tyres but you still need to push hard and go a little crazy to make the lap time in Qualifying. We know we have a good race pace but we need to work more towards the end of the race. I will go at 100%, I want to fight with the top guys because I will learn so much.”

“The pace was really good on the hard tyre. But the race tomorrow will be hot and 25 laps won’t be easy. We have to gather more experience and information by fighting with the top guys.”
