Lowes: “I’m missing something in the first split”

Lowes: “I’m missing something in the first split”

The Motul TT Assen saw Sam Lowes end the day in third and just 0.012s off second position on his Speed Up machine.

The Speed Up frame has classically gone well in cooler conditions while struggling when track temperatures rise, fortunately for the Speed Up Racing rider Assen’s Thursday sessions were quite cool. The Brit has enjoyed mixed results at the Dutch track, claiming victory when racing in World Supersport but crashing twice in last year’s Moto2™ race.

Rain is a frequent visitor at Assen but Lowes is not afraid, having had frequent wet weather practice when racing in the UK. Last year’s race was wet and the Brit had been battling for the podium before suffering an unfortunate crash. The 2015 season has shown a more mature Lowes, crashing less in races and instead settling for strong finishes in the points.

Sam Lowes: “It was really good today, we ended third but this afternoon we didn’t use a new soft tyre. The race tyre will for sure be the soft one but I think we are there. I made many fast laps but Zarco has a good rhythm. I’m missing something in the first split but overall it’s not so bad as I’m fast in the other part of the track, if I can fix this we’re really close. I’m looking forward to tomorrow and hopefully the weather cooperates. I love coming to this track as I really like it and it’s very fast and it’s always nice to be at the front! I’m an English guy so riding in the rain is quite normal! I enjoy the wet conditions and I think we can be fast in these conditions as well. For the feeling of the fans and of riding it’s much better if it’s dry. I have three wet races here in my career but I haven’t finished one yet!”
