Hanika: “There are no points in practice”

Hanika: “There are no points in practice”

A wonderful career first front row for Karel Hanika at ‘the Cathedral’ as Moto3™ avoid Qualifying dramas.

Qualifying for the Motul TT Assen went off without a hitch on Friday, Race Direction’s meeting before the Grand Prix clearly prompting many of the riders to stop waiting for a tow. This fast paced session suited Red Bull KTM Ajo’s Karel Hanika, the Czech able to secure his first ever front row start in Moto3™ with a 1’41.683.

This result comes at a make of break time for the rider as he attempts to pull himself out of a four race slump that has seen him score no points. The former Red Bull Rookie champion knows he is still lacking somewhat in overall race pace but is confident he and his team can make the necessary steps in Warm Up.

Karel Hanika: "We tried to set a good time from the beginning and we fitted the soft tyre. The strategy worked quite well because, even though I didn’t put in many fast laps, the point of the qualifying session is to set one quick lap –and that is what we did. For tomorrow we will continue to work on the bike, to conserve the tyres over race distance and be strong on the final laps. It's been a good day, but there are no points in practice, so we will continue working."
